Duan Wu Jie (Rice Dumpling Festival) and Qu Yuan

Duan Wu Jie is a widely celebrated festival amongst the Chinese, to pay respect to the patriotic poet, Qu Yuan (pronounced as Chue Yuan). The legend involves a really long and complicated throne-fighting war and political history. But to make a long story short: Qu Yuan was an important minister back in Chu Kingdom in ancient China. He had been known for his loyalty for the emperor of Chu, and loved his country greatly. However, His Majesty had not taken Qu Yuan's advice seriously, and he eventually got himself trapped and captured in a foreign land by his enemies, which then lead to his own death.

China Man Co!

It has been almost 20 days since my last posting. I have joined the workforce again, hence I guess my postings will not be as regular due to 'time constraint'. Well I believe the term I used is justifiable as I am a full time working mother who has to tend to her 2 still young children in the night.

I must say it is rather tough to be a single weekday mum though not every one will agree with me (those who has experiance being a single parent tends to be more sympathetic though).

I have started work with this furniture manufacturing company owned by a local 'Datuk'. I would call this a 'china man company' mainly due to the way this company is managed. I find things a little bit messy and unsystemetic and I need to adjust to this..

God's Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.

Things My Mother Taught Me

My Mother taught me LOGIC... "If you fall off that chair and break your neck, you can't go shoppping with me."

My Mother taught me MEDICINE... "If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to freeze that way."

My Mother taught me TO THINK AHEAD... "If you don't do well in school, you'll never get a good job!"

Copy CAT 1

Madam Maya Angelou

Another copy cat production but what the heck! This is something worth sharing...

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older.

And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting.'

The true meaning of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate Mom. These days, pampered luxuries such as day spas and getaway trips are fast becoming popular gifts. Still, the most cherished present, according to several holiday websites, is to honor hard-working moms as “Queen for a Day,” complete with breakfast in bed, homemade cards, flowers and family gatherings (where Mom doesn’t have to cook!).

Mother’s Day may also be the most commercialized of our popular celebrations. It is a sad fact that many of us has lost the original meaning of this sacred event. A more likely reason is that the day’s true origins are unknown to most of us, obscured by its “Hallmark” image.

Copy CAT

I have to admit that this is a copy production! I like this piece alot and hope to have it in my blog for the creative idea the writer post. So here goes...

Leave..

I urgently needed a few days off work, but I knew the BOSS would not allow me to take leave. I thought that maybe if I acted 'CRAZY' then he would tell me to take a few days off. So, I hung upside down on the ceiling and made funny noises. My co-worker asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb so that the BOSS would think that I was 'CRAZY' and give me a few days off.

Kambate - I will do my BEST!!

Late last year, I decided to quit from my then present company to work with another for a brand new experience. I wanted to go into something different. So I switched from being a Customer Service personnel to a Corporate Communication unit in Marketing Department. I thought it would be a refreshing experience for me. I was right, the position was rather challenging and I did enjoy my short stint with that company.

Unfortunately I had to quit my job then. I had a rather unhappy experience in this new department especially with this one particular person. I know I can choose to remain and work it out with this new challenge but I realised I was getting too old for all this crap! Hence I quit after justifying the reason with dear old hubby.

Mid Year Vacation'09

My family and I recently visited Penang. It was almost 11 years since I last visited the place. Hubby and I anticipated a very hot tour round the island but we were pleasantly surprised by the showers of rain to cool off the visit.

I realised Penang has few main roads connected to many little lanes which can contribute to the confusion for tourists like us driving round the island.
