Peranakans and the Chinese Peranakans

Being brought up by a nyonya in the early years of my life has pique my interest to understand more about this interesting culture, the people, their language, attire, food etc. They are a dying breed as many of their younger generations now intermarried with other races. Any how I feel it's a shame not to study this interesting culture hence I would like to share with you today some interesting facts about them.

When God Created Fathers

When the good Lord was creating fathers He started with a tall frame. And a female angel nearby said, "What kind of father is that? If You're going to make children so close to the ground, why have You put fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping."

And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child-size, whom would children have to look up to?"

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there....to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help you figure out who you are or who you want to become.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by luck. Ilness, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul.

Reflections of God's Glory

A woman went to a hairdresser to have her hair cut and blow-waved as usual. She started to have a good conversation with the hairdresser.

They talked about many things and various subjects. Suddenly they touched on the subject of God. The hairdresser said: "Look, I don't believe God exists as you say."

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers.

This includes age, weight, and height.
Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.






2. Keep only cheerful friends.

The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

Answered Prayer

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.
